Youth Group

The high school youth group meets twice a month on Friday evening. The focus for the 2017-2018 year has been "Stories." Life is made of stories, and the youth have been encouraged to consider what their story is so far, and how their decisions will impact what their story will be. We have explored this through crafts, games, and guests from the congregation who have graciously shared stories from their own lives with the youth.

We began the year with a passage that continues to come up through the year, from Esther chapter 4. The fate of the Jews is in peril, and Mordecai asks Esther for help. She isn't sure how she will approach the king to ask for help and Mordecai responds, "For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" Esther's response is to risk her life, breaking the law to approach the king.

The challenge to the youth group has been to consider why God has placed them in their life, in such a time and place as this? What is their purpose and calling? Our guest speakers have touched on this theme, without knowing this was the theme! We have heard time and again about how God has guided people's paths into life-changing events for them and for the people around them. It is exciting to hear about God's work from members of our congregation and to consider what stories our youth will have to tell!

Our Middle School youth group is for children in 6th-8th grade.  Our group attempts to meets monthly depending on availability. The main goal of the middle school group is to provide an opportunity for fellowship with one another while doing various activities.   We have done things such as a ropes course, laser tag and games nights.  Last year we went on our first Service project for a week in Byron Center,MI.
